Measuring tips for window blinds and awnings.
Interior blinds measuring advice
Decide the fixing position of the blind: within the recess or outside the recess.
Check for any obstructions in the fitting area. For example:
- window catches
- electrical sockets
- tiles
- telephone sockets
- dado or picture rails
Order as:
- inside recess, or
- outside recess – a 12mm allowance will be made on recess size width
Always measure for your window blinds using a steel tape measure, not a cloth one. Measure the recess width and drop in several places: always give the smallest measurement.
If you're fixing the window blinds outside the recess, we recomend an overall overlap of 10cm (100mm, approx. 4″).
State all sizes to the nearest 0.1cm, e.g. 90.5cm.
Awnings measuring advice
Measure the overall width of the window or patio door to be covered by the awning.
Add 100cm (1 metre, approx 3′ 3″) to this measurement. This gives you a good idea of a width of awning you should order.
Why add 1 metre?
The half-metre overhang provides increased protection for your interior furniture and ample shade for your patio furniture.
Do I need special brackets?
Your awning is supplied with brackets for fitting to a wall with sufficient wall space above the window or door. However, sometimes bungalows or low extensions require special brackets.

Fig. 1: Spreader plates are required when 'D' is less than 400mm (approx. 15¾″) but more than 230mm (approx. 9″)

Fig. 2: Gallows brackets are required when distance 'E' is less than 230mm (approx. 9″)
Fitting instructions for window blinds
Most of our blinds come with easy-to-follow fitting instructions in the box. One or two ranges don't, however, so downloadable instructions are given below.
